I’ve been visiting Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory in South Deerfield, Mass. since I was a little kid. I especially love going in the winter. There’ll be snow everywhere outside, piled up in the streets, icicles hanging from roofs, and ice everywhere—and inside Magic Wings, it’s the tropics. Butterflies are flittering about, flowers are blooming, birds are pecking at seeds, plants are green and growing. It’s the biggest juxtaposition in the world, a little oasis in the middle of the Arctic.
What attracts me there again and again, in addition to the warmth and tropical vibe, are the colors and patterns of the critters. Magic Wings reminds me every time of the beauty and complexity of nature.
I went again recently, and I want to share a series of photos.
